The introduction of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio marks an important milestone in the history of Alfa Romeo: It's the first SUV we've ever produced. But don't try to tell the Stelvio it's an SUV! This vehicle is firmly convinced it's a sports car. That may be because it's named after the Stelvio Pass, which is one of the highest and most intricate passes in the Italian Alps (48 switchbacks on one face!), and a favourite among sports car companies wishing to prove the handling prowess of their vehicles.
The all-wheel drive, mid-sized Stelvio features the sleek and beautiful styling and luxury amenities you'd expect in an Alfa Romeo, including a touchscreen infotainment system with GPS 3-D navigation, Bluetooth and voice response, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The rotary control knob for the infotainment system will recognise hand-written gestures for input. But that's not all! The Stelvio also features leather seating, a powered lift-gate, reverse sensors, and a back-up camera.
All three versions of the Stelvio include cutting-edge safety and driver assistance features like full-speed forward collision warning with autonomous braking capability; adaptive cruise control, which maintains a driver-selected following distance while keeping as closely to the desired speed as is safe; and lane departure warning, which alerts the driver if the vehicle begins to leave the lane with no turn indicated.
The Stelvio base model and Ti version are powered by a 2.0-litre, direct injection, turbo-charged four-cylinder petrol engine, while the Quadrifoglio version runs on an 2.9-litre, all-aluminium, bi-turbo V-6 engine that launches the Stelvio from zero to 100 km/hr in an astonishing 4 seconds. Both engine configurations are paired with a paddle-shifted, 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The Stelvio Ti upgrades the base features with 19-inch aluminium wheels, an 8.8-inch widescreen display, and genuine wood interior trim.
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio features an upgraded version of the Alfa DNA drive mode selection system, which has a Race mode for the most aggressive handling characteristics and power output. Additional features include 12-way adjustable leather Alcantara front seats and leather rear seats; an exclusive, leather-wrapped steering wheel; a unique instrument cluster; cylinder de-activation program for improved fuel economy; performance suspension, brakes, and wheels; four-channel chassis damping; and torque-vectoring differential.
